Support VVS

How to Give

Your gift helps ensure Verde Valley School remains a place where people from all over the world can come to live, study, and work together in hopes of making the world a better place.  It ensures that the arts, music, and theater are shared and celebrated. And it assures that unique programs like Field Trips and Project Period continue for future VVS generations.

Whether you’re considering a gift to the Annual Fund, a donation to our Global Goals Malawi Program, an item from our wish list, or an hour of your time, we appreciate that you are making Verde Valley School a financial priority.

We are happy to share that 100% of our board of trustees, faculty and staff contribute donations and/or in-kind services to Verde Valley School.

DOES YOUR COMPANY MATCH EMPLOYEES’  CHARITABLE GIFTS?

Naming Verde Valley School as a recipient of your matching gift program can double or even triple the size of your donation, regardless of the method by which you choose to give. Please check with your human resources department to obtain the appropriate paperwork and notify the VVS Advancement Office at the time of making your gift.

  • VVS Annual Giving Program

For seventy-plus years, Verde Valley School students have benefitted from philanthropic support as they develop into global citizens for tomorrow’s world. Today, it costs approximately $13,000 a day for VVS to operate and tuition monies represent about 90% of the cost of a student’s education. The rest comes from the generosity of alumni, parents, and friends of the school.
The Verde Valley School Annual Giving Program is the cornerstone of VVS fundraising and represents approximately 10% of the School’s annual operating budget. A gift to the Annual Fund immediately goes to the school’s greatest needs and supports each of our guiding principles the school is known for. VVS is a tax-exempt 501(c)(3) non-profit organization and all donations to the Annual Giving Program are 100% tax-deductible. Gifts range from $5.00 to $25,000 - every gift matters. What better way to help develop tomorrow’s leaders than to participate in today’s VVS?

  • VVS Endowment Fund - VVS Foundation

The Verde Valley School Foundation is a separate entity from Verde Valley School (VVS). Like VVS, the Foundation is an incorporated, tax exempt 501(c)(3) organization whose purpose is to financially support the School. The sole mission of the Foundation is to build and maintain an endowment fund for the purpose of ensuring the School's long term financial health. Donors should continue to contribute to the School's immediate needs through the Annual Giving Program of Verde Valley School. While the focus of the Verde Valley School Foundation is on endowment growth through planned giving to support the sustainability of the School into the future, all gifts of any size are welcome and appreciated. Planned giving can include bequests in wills, annuities, insurance policies, and gifts of stock.

  • Donor Advised Funds

Donor Advised Funds is a giving vehicle established at a public charity. It allows donors to make a charitable contribution, receive an immediate tax deduction and then recommend grants from the fund over time. If you use a donor-advised fund (DAF) to distribute your charitable contributions, please contact Dana Blavat at dblavat@vvsaz.org or 928-284-2272 for help.

  • Gift Planning

Gifts that pay you income for life are a tool that can provide for both your family and for VVS. Charitable gift annuities and charitable trusts generally provide income during your life, tax deductions (both income and estate), and avoidance of capital gains taxes. There are a variety of options that can be used to help donors meet their obligations to themselves and their families while helping VVS in the future.
  • Gifts of Real Estate or Property

Gifts of real estate, art, musical instruments, equipment, furnishings, or other tangible property make wonderful and useful gifts to VVS. Some types of gifts provide valuable tax benefits to the donor.
  • IRA Rollover

An IRA Rollover allows you to make contributions to VVS, meet your required minimum distribution (RMD), and avoid income tax you would otherwise have to pay on mandatory withdrawals.
The Trade Facilitation and Trade Enforcement Act of 2015 made the “IRA Charitable Rollover” a permanent giving opportunity for qualified donors. Under this legislation, qualified donors may make outright gifts of up to $100,000 to charity from their IRA and avoid taxation on the distribution. For gifts to be counted toward the required minimum distribution (RMD) for 2020, transfers must be made by December 31, 2020.

  • The Native American Scholarship Fund

Since its inception, VVS has welcomed and partnered with the local nations. In fact, the Hopi and Navajo nations helped to build our campus facilities. Our principle of World Citizenship and Cultural Understanding evolved from our belief that students from around the world and “down the street” will develop together a sense of acceptance, a value for different cultures and a deep commitment that each of our students bring their backgrounds and experiences to the school community and in turn, we become an educational arena where we all learn from one another and share in that knowledge. Jackson Browne helped to create the Native American Scholarship Fund with several annual music concerts on the VVS campus, with performances from artists like Neil Young, James Brown, Bonnie Raitt, the Indigo Girls, Crosby, Stills, and Nash and many others. All proceeds added to the fund in an ongoing commitment to bring awareness and support for native students.
The Native American Scholarship Fund provides tuition assistance to any native student with a financial need. In addition, the Native American Scholarship Fund provides funds for native programs, workshops, and guest speakers/teachers to share their cultures, heritage, and experiences with the VVS community members.
