At Verde Valley School, the setting isn't a backdrop — it's part of the program. Students compete on championship-level soccer teams, ride horses through the desert, summit the Grand Canyon rim to rim, and learn to weld, all in the same year. With 140 acres of red rock country as your campus and a community that expects you to show up fully, athletics and activities at VVS aren't something you fit into your schedule. They're how you figure out who you are.

The Red Rocks Are Your Gym

Most schools have a gym. We have 140 acres backed by national forest, with red rocks abound.  Hiking, rock climbing, mountain biking, and trail running aren't electives here — they're part of how we live. 
The landscape doesn't just give us a place to be active — it teaches us something. How to push past discomfort. How to rely on the people next to you. How to move through the world with confidence.

We Play to Win

VVS competes across a full range of team sports, and we compete to win. Our soccer program claimed the Arizona State Championship in 2026 — a testament to what a small, tight-knit team can accomplish when every player on the roster matters. Basketball, volleyball, cross country, track and field, golf and chess round out a calendar that keeps the competitive energy going year-round.
What makes VVS athletics different isn't just the wins. It's that your coach is also your dorm parent and your advisor. The person pushing you in practice is the same one who knows what you're going through in class. That kind of connection changes what it means to be on a team.

We Play for Fun

Athletics are one side of the coin. The other is the range of clubs and activities that fill the gaps — and sometimes become the thing you remember most. Our student rock band performs for the whole school. The welding shop produces work that ends up on display. The annual musical brings together students who've never set foot on a stage. Yearbook, chess, the Interact Club, harvesting from the school garden — there's no shortage of ways to find your people and your thing.
