Project Period

At VVS, we don't end the semester with exams. Students roll up their sleeves and dive deeply into transformative learning.

Project Period supplements Verde Valley students’ regular intellectual lives with experiential learning that is creative, active, and service-based.  The program is an opportunity to deconstruct the ordinary school day as well as the traditional parameters of a classroom.

30+ projects occur concurrently on campus, some of which are offered by guest artists who come to Verde Valley for this program. Each student enrolls in two. Campus comes alive with courses in welding, slam poetry, jewelry making, podcasting, technical rock climbing, 3D printing, social justice sewing projects, triathlon competitions, mural painting, bicycle building and more.

Project Period strengthens bonds between students as well as with faculty and cultivates important 21st century skills, from mechanical problem solving to self-discipline, from achieving a physical goal to pushing areas of comfort.  Students are provided the opportunity to pursue something that moves them and are encouraged to uncover new areas of inspiration.  In eight jam-packed days, Project Period synergistically widens and deepens a VVS student’s educational journey.

At the end of Project Period, the school comes alive with an exhibition of student achievement.  Expo is one of our favorite nights of the year as we are all inspired and surprised by what we can discover and create in a twenty-hour project.
Verde Valley School is an International Baccalaureate boarding and day high school for students in grades 9-12.
