Dear Friends,

Each May, as we drive up the California Coast, North of San Francisco into the wine country surrounded by endless hills painted with lush shades of green, we are struck once again by the beauty of this place. A mix of salty sea and wild flowers, peppered with cows and sheep, our noses begin to recognize the familiar scent of the rich earth and fragrant air. The winding road that leads us there is marked with artisans’ signs offering an array of uniquely special things. This is a special place.

As we travel closer to our destination, we are also reminded of you. Our VVS friends and family. Will Bucklin and Lizanne Pastore curate a beautiful setting on their deck that is surrounded by gardens and a bountiful vineyard bordering their home. They make wine and harvest honey. They welcome us with gentle smiles and warm hugs. This is now a familiar place. Will and Lizanne create an experience that feels organically natural and comfortably genteel.

The following day we begin the preparations for our alumni event, visiting the local farmer’s market to gather the most seasonally fresh fruits, veggies, herbs and flowers. Our group shopping trip continues to a small, yet well stocked cheese shop that is tended by a surly woman who knows her cheeses but isn’t up for chit chat. The layers of preparation are part of the many sensory pleasures that build our excitement and delight as we imagine the fun, the feast and the friends who will be gathering together the following day.

And then there’s the wine, oh yes the wine, bottles and bottles of white, red and pink wines for every palate there is an aromatic, bright, rich or earthy indulgence to imbibe. Although this year we will not all be together in this space, we are planning to include all the many details, descriptions and delicacies for your virtual experience.

Join us this Saturday for a beautiful afternoon in Glen Ellen, California at Bucklin Old Hill Ranch (buckzin.com) and visit with our hosts Will and Lizanne, supported by The VVS Alumni “travel Sonoma team” Paul, Donita, Morgan, Michael, Holly and Peter as we connect together with you.

1:00 PDT on Saturday, May 2, 2020 for an hour or so of togetherness. See you there!
