Dartmouth College recognizes the IB Diploma and grants up to six course credits for superior performance on the Higher Level examinations, provided that the exams cover fields of study represented by Dartmouth's academic departments in the Arts and Sciences. Students with comparable scores on IB exams that fall outside of these parameters should bring them to the attention of the Dean of First-Year Students who will make a determination about credit, based upon the judgment of the Committee on Instruction. Students who have completed the IB curriculum will ordinarily be granted, on matriculation at Dartmouth College, one course credit for each score of 6 or 7 on the Higher Level examinations. A second credit may be granted, subject to departmental determinations. These credits may be used to reduce the number of courses required for graduation, but may not normally be used to satisfy any other degree requirement. Lehigh University recognizes the IB Diploma Program and awards credit for higher level examination scores of 5 or better. NYU: IB higher level examinations passed with grades of 6 or 7 may be considered for credit and/or placement depending on the area of study and/or program requirements. Typically, 8 semester hours of credit (equivalent to two terms or one academic year of a specific subject) will be awarded for each higher level examination meeting the requirements of NYU. Smith College will award a full year of college credit to a student who earns an IB Diploma and receives scores of 5, 6, or 7 on each examination. Princeton University recognizes the IB and uses examination results for advanced placement purposes only. A score of 6 or 7 on the higher level examinations is normally accorded advanced placement recognition.

Boarding and the IB VVS offers more than the IB curriculum. Living on campus offers students access to a full residential program. Students find they have more quality time to focus on the extra work load required by the IB when they live on campus. They have access to the art studios, science labs, music practice rooms and other study resources. They can study with students who share their classes and assignments, and older students often tutor younger ones. Students also have access to qualified teachers beyond the classroom. Our teachers live and work with students - often coaching them on the field or court, taking weekend trips with them, spending time in the outdoors - they get to know each student on a more personal level. They know how to encourage them, guide them and advise them. They are available outside of class for tutoring and extra help - evenings and weekends. Teachers often hold special study sessions during evening study hours by teachers before big exams. With an IB diploma, our graduates can prove they have the academic rigor to succeed in college. A VVS graduate also has the maturity to live and work independently in any university setting.
