Plans are well underway on the long-awaited improvements and additions to the Verde Valley School campus. This spring, work  began in earnest on the new road, water and septic systems, the equestrian center, the caretaker’s cottage, and athletic field. (For more photos of the new road construction, click here.)

The caretaker’s cottage will be a two-story duplex (a three bedroom and a two bedroom apartment) that will be located north of the Warren house, and overlooking the equestrian center. The duplex will give the school housing for two faculty families, and give the equestrian center greater supervision. (Links to architect's drawings are on the right.)

The most exciting aspect of the proposed new construction is the Board of Trustee’s commitment to building “green.” The Board has planned the building so that it can achieve a LEED certification (Leadership in Energy Efficient Design). LEED is the nation-wide environmental standard for “green construction” that was developed by the U.S. Green Building Council.  Designed by Daniel Paduchowski of Architectural and Environmental Associates located in Flagstaff, the cottage will have in-floor radiant heat, passive and active solar power, super efficient windows and doors, and will be built using renewable and recycled building materials.
