Field Trips

Imagine observing a Hopi Kiva Dance, or living in Mexico with a family, or working with Habitat for Humanity in Northern California, or hiking the Grand Canyon. Imagine doing this for two weeks in small groups of students and faculty, keeping a diary, and sharing your experiences with the entire school. Imagine VVS Field Trips.

Each year, every student participates in a VVS Field Trip program; a program that has been a part of the Verde Valley School curriculum since the school was founded in 1948. For two weeks, students and faculty members take part in the lives and work of communities far from the school.

Many options are available each year, but in each case the objective is either to engage directly in the lives of people whose values and life experiences are different from those generally considered "mainstream", or to give practical expression to the ideal of environmental stewardship and service to humanity.

Senior Independent Field Trips

VVS seniors have an opportunity to design their own independent study program instead of participating in a Field Trip. The Independent Trips give seniors an excellent opportunity to take charge of their own learning.

Students have interned at schools and in professional offices, they have traveled abroad where they have worked with fashion photographers, assisted midwives, learned to cook, stayed with families, taught in schools, worked on sustainable farms. The possibilities are limitless.
